Biografie

Biography
I am a painter since 1984. The impetus was given to me by Gertraud Pesendorfer. She was a pupil of Herbert Boeckl and a member of the Wiener Sezession (Vienna Secession) and lived in Vienna and Carinthia.
My work of art is created from absolute freedom, but still according to the theory of color and the theory of composition.

Biografia

My life as an artist.
Rupert Rebernig

I have been painting since the 1980s and find great enjoyment in painting. I feel as free as a child at play and yet I am in the here and now.

In the early years I experimented as I had to learn my craft and had not yet found my own way.

In spite of studying art history and the study of the development of painting, it took some time for me to find my own style: the one which was most suited to me and in which I could express myself best. Of course, I knew that I must be guided by the principles of painting such as understanding the connection between colour and form and I learned how to use them in order to express my life and my feelings.

I do not paint things that can be seen, nor do I attempt to recreate scenes in nature. Our natural environment is far too wonderful to be recreated on canvas and why should I try to imitate something that we can experience with our own senses.

In my creative process I absorb what I see in the world around me and reflect upon it over some time before I am able to create something new on canvas.

To begin with, I decide upon the background colour and continue by creating abstract forms and colour on canvas. This is done without any conception of what I am about to create and the process is free and completely by chance. For the moment, this is the end of the process of free expression.

From here begins the stage of making it into something, it is like a game of questions and answers where, with the use of colour and form I introduce harmony into the painting by constructing an abstract and creating an artistic composition.

Sometimes it is necessary to make corrections to a work. There follows a conscious decision to alter, to paint over until I am satisfied with the result.

My creative act of paining can be thought of as a succession of processes, as processes affect us in life. One must always make decisions, they may be important or only very simple ones but we have the freedom to make choices. When we decide to do something we may stick to it and follow it through, or we can change it again until we are satisfied with the end result. Sometimes in painting, as in life it is not necessary to make a change when we are happy with the status quo and so it is in my work. I may be satisfied with the creative process the first time around and not have to make corrections to a work. It may only be by coincidence that everything falls into place and there is no need for correction, but this again is only a coincidence and I make these decisions as my work enfolds.

I am very passionate about painting and in my creativity, I feel completely free.

Sulla mia vita da pittore.
Rupert Rebernig

Amo dipingere perché in quel momento mi sento molto libero.
